Alban Bagbin Re-elected as Chair of Conference of African Speakers

Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has been re-elected as the Chairperson of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Parliaments (CoSAP). This leadership role marks a second term for Bagbin, who is highly regarded for his contributions to parliamentary diplomacy and for strengthening legislative cooperation across the African continent. His re-election reflects the confidence that his peers from various African parliaments have in his capacity to guide the organization’s vision and facilitate greater unity and collaboration among African states.

During his previous tenure, Bagbin championed initiatives focused on bolstering parliamentary democracy, fostering dialogue among African leaders, and addressing pressing issues such as security, youth employment, and sustainable development. He also emphasized the importance of Africa-led solutions, encouraging parliaments to work together to create robust policies that cater to the continent’s unique challenges and aspirations. His efforts in promoting transparency and accountability within parliamentary practices across Africa have been widely acknowledged, and his re-election is seen as a continuation of this impactful work.

Bagbin’s reappointment is timely, as African nations are navigating economic recovery, political stability, and sustainable development in the post-pandemic era. Through CoSAP, Bagbin aims to foster strategic alliances that can empower legislative bodies to address challenges and opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and other continental initiatives.

His leadership is expected to further enhance Ghana’s position on the international stage, as Bagbin continues to leverage his role to influence key decisions that promote peace, stability, and unity across Africa. This re-election solidifies Ghana’s active role in African diplomacy and strengthens the nation’s commitment to regional collaboration and development.
