Chris Hughton - I can’t guarantee Ghana trophies

The newly appointed head coach of the Ghana national football team, Chris Hughton, has said he cannot guarantee the country any trophies but he is committed to building a strong team and helping Ghana compete at the highest level.

Hughton, a former Premier League manager with Brighton & Hove Albion and Norwich City, was appointed as the new coach of the Black Stars earlier this month. He replaces Charles Akonnor, who was sacked after a poor start to Ghana's World Cup qualifying campaign.

Speaking to the media in his first official press conference as Ghana coach, Hughton said: "I can't guarantee any trophies, but what I can guarantee is that we will work hard to build a strong team and create an environment where players can thrive and perform at their best."
Hughton acknowledged the challenges that come with coaching a national team and said he is focused on developing a squad that can compete at the highest level. "There are no guarantees in football, but what we can do is work hard every day to improve and build a team that can compete at the highest level," he said.

The coach also emphasized the importance of working with local coaches and developing young talent. "It's important to work with local coaches and create opportunities for young players to develop and compete at the highest level. Ghana has a rich footballing history, and I'm excited to be part of the team that will help build on that legacy," he said.

Hughton's appointment has been welcomed by many Ghanaian football fans, who hope he can help turn around the team's fortunes after a disappointing start to the World Cup qualifying campaign. Ghana currently sits in third place in their group, behind South Africa and Zimbabwe, with only the top team guaranteed a place at the World Cup in Qatar next year.

Hughton's first test as Ghana coach will be in March 2022, when the Black Stars take on Ethiopia in a crucial World Cup qualifier. The coach has expressed confidence in his team and said he is looking forward to the challenge. "We have a talented squad, and I'm confident we can achieve great things together," he said.
